PAUL McCRAY
acoustic and electric
guitars, bouzouki
Paul was destined from birth to become a
Recliner because he grew up in a town called Davenport. Upon
hearing the first wave of the "British Invasion" he begged his
father for a guitar, and at the age of 11 started a band,
Thursday Dispatch, with his brother Dave and pal Chuck Lee.
He's been playing in one band or another almost continuously
ever since, including such forgettable favorites as The
Hobbit, TANSTAAFL, Circus, Ricky and the Rockets, Brenda and
the Wild Husbands, the Intubations, and Melissa and the Tall
Guys. Paul says, "Playing with the Lazy Boys is such a treat
because we all bring different musical backgrounds to the band
and enjoy playing a wide variety of musical styles. It's also
the best-named band I've ever been in."
Paul’s musical influences include the Beatles
(of course), Eric Clapton, Richard Thompson, Peter Green,
David Lindley, Jerry Garcia, Hot Tuna, Van Morrison, Tim
O’Brian and more. He lives with his wife Linzee, his best
friend and support system. They have two daughters, Maggie and
Rebecca, both with musical talents of their own. When he's
not playing with the Lazy Boys or Turkana, Paul works as a
physician scientist in the Department of Pediatrics at the
University of Iowa’s Carver College of Medicine. |
